These factors, in combination with others, have triggered conflicts and rivalries that have had serious impacts on people and the environment. Peace and improved environmental governance are key to achieving prosperity and resilience in the West Asian region.

The UN Environment Programme's Regional Office for West Asia is hosted by the Government of the Kingdom of Bahrain, and located in the building of the Supreme Council for Environment (SCE) in Bahrain. 

The Regional office serves twelve countries of the region as follows:
